Search Jefferson County Criminal Dockets

Start by figuring out which court has the case: Jefferson County Superior Court handles felonies, while District Court takes misdemeanors and lesser charges. That one choice points you to the right index, calendar, and clerk. A Jefferson County criminal court docket lists the charges, filings, hearings, rulings, and outcomes in a case by date, so knowing the court narrows the search fast. Washington runs public case and court-date searches, and the local clerk holds the official file plus certified copies. Access has firm limits, though. Sealed cases, juvenile material, protected data, and some specialty-court information may never appear online. A blank result is not the end; check with the court where the case was filed.

Jefferson Criminal Court Split

One Jefferson County courthouse holds two criminal docket custodians. The elected County Clerk keeps the Superior Court file, while District Court maintains its own limited-jurisdiction and Port Townsend municipal files. Aim your request at the right office. A District Court request sent to the Superior Court Clerk can slow a docket search, even though both counters sit at 1820 Jefferson Street.

The split turns on jurisdiction, not seriousness alone. A preliminary felony appearance in District Court does not turn the later felony case into a municipal or District Court trial docket.

What a Criminal Docket Shows

A docket is a map, not the territory. A Jefferson County criminal docket shows the procedural path, not every page in the court records file. Washington GR 31 counts dockets, indexes, calendars, orders, judgments, minutes, case-management data, filed papers, and exhibits as court records. Even so, the public index may show only metadata. A search result does not make the call. The Clerk decides which documents may be inspected or copied.

Court and cause numberThe filing court and searchable case identifier.
Case categoryFelony, criminal traffic, criminal nontraffic, probable cause, or another official type.
Activity dateThe date a charge, motion, order, plea, judgment, or other event was entered.
HearingThe setting date, type, judicial officer, and courtroom or remote detail when published.
OutcomePlea, trial, dismissal, verdict, sentence, or disposition information when public.
Document statusPublic online, Clerk request required, restricted, unavailable, or sealed.

A case-activity label is a pointer, not the paper itself. For the complaint, signed order, judgment, or sentence, follow the linked document route or ask the proper Jefferson County custodian for the file.

Find Jefferson Criminal Hearings

Hearings run on a live clock. Find My Court Date queries the same real-time system court staff use for District and municipal dates. Pick JEFFERSON DISTRICT COURT. Enter the required first and last name. The result may include a case summary, calendar information, and case activities.

Superior Court posts adult criminal and special-set material on its motion calendar page. District Court lists arraignments, criminal proceedings, in-custody sessions, probation reviews, warrant-quash matters, trials, and interpreter sessions on its calendar page. Posted lists change. A missing name does not excuse anyone from appearing. If a date conflicts with a court order, call the court. District Court is at 360-385-9135, and the Superior Court Clerk is at 360-385-9125.

Note: A current order from the court controls. It wins when a web calendar and an index disagree.

Stages on a Criminal Docket

The activity list grows as a case moves. A charging event opens the trail, and an arraignment records the first formal response to the charge. Pretrial settings cover release, counsel, discovery, motions, or scheduling. A plea or trial then leads toward a disposition, a sentence may follow a conviction, and not every case uses every step.

Docket flow: Filing → Arraignment → Pretrial → Plea or Trial → Disposition → Sentencing

Arraignment
A hearing where the charge is stated and a plea is addressed.
Continuance
An order moving a hearing or trial to a later date.
Disposition
The way a charge or case ends, such as dismissal, plea, or verdict.
Preliminary appearance
An early District Court event that may occur before a felony proceeds in Superior Court.

One case can carry many settings. A reset is not a dismissal, and a hearing entry is not proof the event happened as first scheduled.

Jefferson Therapeutic Criminal Calendars

Some Jefferson County criminal matters land on problem-solving calendars instead. Drug Court and Mental Health Court are structured programs. They pair court review with treatment and supervision. District Court also publishes therapeutic and behavioral-health settings. Deferred prosecution runs on its own legal and treatment framework. The public docket may carry a program label. The Jefferson County therapeutic courts overview shows why that label appears on the docket. It does so without making treatment details public.

Jefferson County criminal docket therapeutic courts page

The public record can name a setting or a court action. Health information, assessments, and treatment records get added protection and may stay sealed.

Which Court Holds Criminal Dockets

Jefferson County Superior Court tries the county's felonies as its general-jurisdiction trial court. Amanda L. Hamilton, Jefferson County Clerk, is custodian of the court's criminal filings, orders, judgments, and official file. Many public Superior Court documents also appear in the Washington State Archives Digital Archives. Search by cause number, keywords, or a year range. The Archives is no substitute for the Clerk. Certified, older, sealed, or restricted material still comes from the Clerk's office.

District Court keeps its own criminal dockets. Misdemeanors, criminal traffic and nontraffic cases, preliminary felony proceedings, and Port Townsend municipal matters all belong there. For online District records, the county points to re:SearchWA after the 2026 Enterprise Justice launch, but that public interface can be unreliable. Use the District Court case-file form instead. It covers email, mail, pickup, and file-view requests.

Blank Jefferson Criminal Results

A blank criminal docket search proves nothing. Treat it as a prompt to work the angles. Start by confirming the court level and the cause number you have. Then vary the case type. Widen the filing year. Test the exact spelling of the party name. Why the gaps? A felony can start in District Court. It may later carry a Superior cause number. Ordinary Case Search also runs behind the real-time calendar system. A fresh filing may simply be missing from the index.

Ask yourself one more question. Is the item you want a docket entry or the document underneath it? Digital Archives sometimes holds a public Superior filing the state index never links. District Court may demand re:SearchWA registration or a records request. Sealed, juvenile, or restricted matters may never show up at all. The Jefferson County case search page walks through the fields one by one. But the filing court itself is the final check on any Jefferson County criminal docket.

Public Access and Sealed Criminal Dockets

Washington tilts toward open court records. Yet it also guards privacy and safety. Complaints, orders, sentences, verdicts, and case activity all sit in the public criminal file. Seeing a docket, though, does not license needless republication of private identifiers. The state search cannot even promise you have the right person. Juvenile and therapeutic dockets carry extra limits.

Key Rules:

Washington GR 31 defines court records and the framework for public access.

Washington GR 15 governs sealing, redaction, and destruction after a court balances access against privacy or safety.

RCW chapter 13.50 supplies special rules for juvenile offender and nonoffender records.

GR 15 prefers the least restrictive remedy. Still, no public portal can show what a court has sealed. Contact the proper Jefferson County court whenever the existence or status of a record must be confirmed.

Jefferson Criminal Docket Filings

Local filing labels tell you why an activity lands where it does. Jefferson District Court's 2026 rules demand a caption, cause number, date, and a clear "Clerk's Action Required" notation. That notation matters whenever clerk action is sought. Washington GR 14 sets the basic format. An accepted electronic submission is not the same thing as a public search result.

District Court moved to Enterprise Justice in June 2026. Attorneys must e-file through eFileWA after September 1, 2026. Self-represented users may register as well. Superior Court takes a different route. It routes electronic submissions through LiquidFiles with separate flattened PDF files and a receipt process. Neither interface amounts to the full public Jefferson County criminal docket.
