How to Search the Jefferson County Court Docket
Begin any Jefferson County court docket search at the Washington Courts Case Search. One index covers municipal, district, superior, and appellate cases statewide. Pick the court level first. Then enter a name, a business, or a case number. For a Superior Court lookup, name Jefferson County Superior Court as the court. Then pick civil, criminal, domestic, or probate and guardianship. For anything limited-jurisdiction or tied to Port Townsend, choose JEFFERSON DISTRICT COURT. The general index refreshes roughly once a day. A recent hearing change may not appear right away.
Bring the exact case number if you have it. A full party name helps. So do the likely filing year and the case type. Remember that a matching name proves nothing by itself. Check the filing court against its own source record before relying on a result. Need today's appearance time? Use Find My Court Date or the posted local calendar. Need a document? Move past the index to Digital Archives, re:SearchWA, or the right clerk.
- Open Case Search and accept the court-data notice.
- Pick Superior Courts or District and Municipal Courts.
- Select Jefferson County Superior Court or JEFFERSON DISTRICT COURT.
- Search by case number, party name, or business name and apply the year and case-type filters.
- Verify the activity, setting, and documents with the court that holds the file.
Jefferson County Docket Search Fields
Jefferson County pulls several court levels through one site. The statewide form shifts depending on which court and search type you pick. Only the identifying field tied to the active search type is required. A filing-year limit lets you narrow the docket search. The court's own records reach back to filings from 1975. In September 2026, the form offered that full range.
| Field | Use | Jefferson County choice |
|---|---|---|
| Court level | Sets the court menu | Superior or District and Municipal |
| Court name | Limits the county court | Jefferson County Superior Court or JEFFERSON DISTRICT COURT |
| Search type | Chooses the key | Name, business name, or case number |
| Case type | Narrows the docket | Civil, criminal, domestic, probate, traffic, infraction, small claim, and more |
| Year filed | Limits older matches | Select the likely year or an earlier cutoff |
Treat the state result as an index, not the official Jefferson County court record. A document link may be missing. The status shown may be stale. Take the cause number and court name from the result straight to the proper custodian. The Washington Courts landing page lays out the four public search choices.
The tabs separate a case lookup from person, attorney, and current-date searches.
What a Court Docket Shows
A Jefferson County court docket is the dated trail a case leaves behind. It can show when the action began. It lists the parties' court roles. The case category, filed motions, orders, hearings, and the final disposition can appear as well. A calendar entry is narrower in scope. It names a scheduled event and may add a courtroom, a judge, or remote-access details. Neither view promises that every document sits open to the public online.
| Case number | The cause number used to search and request the file. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Names paired with roles such as plaintiff, petitioner, respondent, or defendant. |
| Case activity | Dated filings, orders, notices, judgments, and other docket events. |
| Hearing setting | Date, time, setting type, and location when the calendar supplies them. |
| Court and officer | The filing court and, when shown, the assigned judicial officer. |
| Disposition | The recorded result, such as dismissal, judgment, plea, verdict, or sentence. |
Jefferson County Archives Record Split
Many public Superior Court documents leave the docket index. They land in the Washington State Archives Digital Archives. The collection takes a case number or keywords, plus optional year-from and year-to limits. For Jefferson County Superior Court files from 2010 forward, it is the strongest online route. It leads to the documents themselves. Cases filed earlier are generally covered only for documents filed after November 2017.
Sealed material, confidential files, older documents, and certified copies still belong to the Jefferson County Clerk. The archive makes public files easier to reach. It does not replace the Clerk as custodian of the record. The county publishes a timing note. Public documents submitted by 5 p.m. should appear the next business day. That schedule is separate from the statewide index's once-a-day update cycle.
The Digital Archives search screen uses focused fields. They keep a document search distinct from the broader state case index.
Which Courts Keep Dockets
Jefferson County Superior Court is the general-jurisdiction trial court. Its docket spans felony trials, larger civil cases, domestic matters, probate and guardianship, adoption and parentage, juvenile cases, and mental-health proceedings. Amanda L. Hamilton, the elected Jefferson County Clerk, keeps that court's official files. District Court runs its own counter and staff. Its criminal docket and civil caseload stay busy. They cover limited civil matters, small claims, infractions, misdemeanors, preliminary felony hearings, protection matters, and Port Townsend municipal cases.
| Court | Docket Covers | Where to Search |
|---|---|---|
| Jefferson County Superior Court | Felony, civil, domestic, probate, juvenile, and specialty cases | Case Search, Digital Archives, Odyssey, or County Clerk |
| Jefferson County District Court | Misdemeanor, infraction, small claim, limited civil, and preliminary felony matters | Case Search, Find My Court Date, local calendar, re:SearchWA, or District Court |
| Port Townsend municipal function | City ordinance and municipal traffic matters | Jefferson County District Court under contract |
Jefferson County Calendars and Dockets
Jefferson County uses several words for records that overlap. A daily calendar or weekly docket lists what appearances are coming. A motion calendar groups hearings by subject and session. The case activities, often just called the docket, are the event history of the case. Match the tool to the question. Do not treat each display as interchangeable.
- Calendar
- A schedule of hearings expected on a given day or week.
- Setting
- A scheduled court event, not necessarily a trial.
- Continuance
- A court-approved move to a later date.
- Case activity
- A dated entry recording a filing, order, hearing, or other event.
A reset does not dismiss the case. Check the newest calendar entry and docket entry, then call the right court if the two seem to conflict.
Finding Court Dates and Settings
District and Port Townsend municipal dates sit in a state tool. It is the real-time Find My Court Date system. Select JEFFERSON DISTRICT COURT and type the required first and last names. The county also posts Monday-through-Friday links on its District Court Calendar. That page lists remote-access details. It also warns that no one may record or broadcast a proceeding without approval.
Superior Court posts recurring weekly motion dockets for criminal, civil, domestic, drug court, juvenile, dependency, protection, and special-set matters. Those postings can shift. The Clerk tells callers to confirm any special set or last-minute update directly. The full Jefferson County court calendar walkthrough explains the lookup and confirmation chain.
Jefferson County Motion Calendar Rhythm
The Superior Court Motion Calendars page sorts weekly dockets by matter type, not just by case name. That structure helps a reader pick the right list. A criminal motion, civil motion, domestic matter, protection hearing, juvenile matter, or drug-court session may sit on a different roster. Each matter type gets its own slot.
The county posts these dockets before each session but warns they can still change. A special set may need a direct confirmation call. A case-activity entry can also show a continuance added after an older calendar went up. So the best same-day check pairs the newest calendar with a call to the court.
The official calendar page displays the county's weekly docket list.
Those separate calendar labels explain something useful. They show why knowing the case type helps before a docket search begins.
Public Access to Dockets
Washington sets its own rules for opening court records. General Rule 31 governs public access. General Rule 15 covers sealing, redacting, destroying, or later reopening case material, and General Rule 22 shields certain family-law, protection, guardianship, financial, and identity details. Juvenile records face added limits under chapter 13.50 RCW. For a judicial case file in Jefferson County, these court rules control the request rather than the county's usual Public Records Act route.
Key Rules:
Washington GR 31 defines court records and the public-access framework.
Washington GR 15 governs sealing and redaction through a court process.
Washington GR 22 protects specified family and personal data.
Chapter 13.50 RCW sets separate limits for juvenile records.
Missing Jefferson County Docket Results
A blank docket search result means just that: nothing matched. Confirm you searched the right court level first. Then work the mechanics of the docket lookup itself. Try the exact cause number, other spellings of a name or business, a broader year range, and the right case type. Know whether you need a current hearing date or the general case index. The state calendar tool is real time; the general case search updates about daily.
From there, pick the system that holds the record. Digital Archives serves many Superior Court documents. Odyssey carries Superior case information, though anonymous users should not expect document access. re:SearchWA is the county-designated District Court route after the 2026 migration. JIS-Link sells display-only data and no case documents.
Key point: sealed, restricted, juvenile, older, or newly filed material may not appear online. The filing court can confirm the proper next step.
The Clerk and Docket Records
The Jefferson County Clerk holds the Superior Court files, judgments, orders, exhibits, and requested recordings. Amanda L. Hamilton is the elected Clerk. Visit the counter in Room 210 at the county courthouse. Hours are weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Phone and mail requests work too. The Clerk issues certified copies. It also supplies public material too old or otherwise unavailable through Digital Archives. The office's official page publishes filing and access details. Those details connect the online index to the source file itself.
District Court keeps its own limited-jurisdiction and Port Townsend municipal records. Send those requests to the District Court counter, not the Superior Court Clerk. County administrative records go through a third route, the County Public Records Administrator. Sort out who holds the record at the start and you avoid delay.

Jefferson County Filing Systems Changed
District Court moved to Enterprise Justice on June 1, 2026. Records now flow toward re:SearchWA, and filings go through eFileWA. Attorney e-filing became mandatory after September 1, 2026; self-represented filers may register as well. Remember that filing tools are not the public docket. A submission account places a document in a case. A records portal or the clerk provides public access once the filing is accepted and processed.
Superior Court runs a different submission route, LiquidFiles, with its own rules. Each document must be its own flattened PDF. The filer must confirm the Clerk accepted it. So a District Court filing and a Superior Court filing never travel through the same intake system. Both courts sit in Jefferson County all the same. The District Court system notice records the Enterprise Justice change. That date marker helps when older instructions conflict with the current route.
Jefferson County Docket Request Costs
Looking at a file at the proper court may cost nothing. Copies, certification, research, mailing, and recordings can each carry a charge. The Jefferson County Clerk's July 2025 schedule listed emailed electronic copies at 25 cents per page. A June 2026 county alert then announced a 50-cent digital-copy fee under a legislative change. Those two official notices never fully reconcile the medium or the effective rate, so ask the Clerk to quote the current cost before you order.
| Request | Where it starts | Cost treatment |
|---|---|---|
| View a public Superior file | Digital Archives or Clerk | Online search or counter viewing may be free |
| Ordinary copy | Custodian of the case | Per-page or delivery charges may apply |
| Certified copy | Superior Clerk or District Court | Copy charge plus certification |
| Hearing recording | The court that held the hearing | Preparation and media charges may apply |
A good fee quote names the court and the case number. It should also list the pages or document titles, the delivery method, and whether certification is required. District Court has its own case-file request form. The County Public Records Administrator handles county administrative material. That office is not a way around the judicial record rules. Ask for an estimate when the page count is unknown. A named order often costs less than the full Jefferson County court file. Certification only matters when the receiving office demands an official sealed copy. A plain copy serves ordinary research fine. State your purpose as a record format question, not a request for legal advice. The county Court Records page explains the split between the Clerk and Digital Archives, with cutoff notes that help you choose the right source before paying for copies.
Court Dockets by City in Jefferson County
Jefferson County has one incorporated city: Port Townsend. The District Court administers its municipal function under contract. City ordinance and municipal traffic matters therefore run through JEFFERSON DISTRICT COURT in the state tools, the District Court calendar, and the District Court records route. No separate city docket portal exists.

Superior Court, County Clerk, District Court, and Juvenile Court all sit at the same historic red-brick courthouse, 1820 Jefferson Street in downtown Port Townsend. Superior Court and the Clerk's public counter are on the second floor in Room 210; District Court, which also handles Port Townsend municipal matters by contract, shares the second floor at its own counter. An elevator serves all floors, including the basement, and handicap parking is on the east side of the building.

The courthouse uses a magnetometer and X-ray screening at entry, and all weapons, including folding knives, are prohibited, so allow extra time before a hearing. Records processed by the Clerk are generally available after 5:00 p.m. the same day. Because Superior and District share one building but keep separate counters and case types, confirm which court holds the file before arriving.
